A Cornish Celebration of Age and Ambition Grandparents, carers, nurses, volunteers, journalists, social workers, community groups, councillors and charities – all descended on Kingsley Village, Fraddon on the 8 October. The aim was to raise the profile of older people in Cornwall, the challenges we face and the solutions that together we can all offer. We also wanted to offer people an opportunity to reflect their desires and future ambitions, which are too often overlooked. Crammed with activities, exhibitions, demonstrations and debate, the first Age and Ambition event was a surefire success and by popular demand another is planned in 2010. Central to the day was a chance to quiz top council and health bosses in a Cornish Question Time event chaired by BBC Radio Cornwall, questions were submitted in advance and a lively session was enjoyed by all. Opening the entertainment was Cornwall’s own popular entertainer Johnny Cowling and a highlight of the day was the Wall of Wishes – a living exhibition of people’s hopes and fears. Hundreds of people helped create this by adding their own wishes to the wall. Please do click on our video to see the fun that was had by all and we would love to welcome you to Celebrating Age and Ambition 2010. Celebrating Age and Ambition was organised by the following organisations: Age Concern in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, NHS for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall Council, Arts for Health, BBC Radio Cornwall, Cornwall Care, Cornwall Community Foundation, Local Involvement Network Cornwall, Voluntary Sector Forum & Take Part Cornwall. |
